Enormous success for the event bringing marble and its culture to the old town centre. Exhibitions, installations, sounds and sculptures may be visited for another two weekends.
Carrara, 14 June 2011
The success was beyond all expectations and unanimously Carrara asked to extend Carrara Marble Week, the event meant to renew the relationship between the town and “its” marble culture. Hence what was supposed to be an event over five evenings is being extended to Sunday 26 June.
“We are delighted to be able to extend Carrara Marble Week until the end of June - says Paris Mazzanti, general manager of CarraraFiere that organised the event. The idea came first and foremost from the partner companies who witnessed the success of the event and saw how it was appreciated by Carrara and the large number of visitors from nearby towns. The decision, which leads to a great deal of work especially in terms of organization, was a joint decision with the Council and means that the exhibitions in the streets with their special lighting effects will remain until the end of the month together with the exhibitions in the public and private buildings. We are very pleased because Carrara Marble Week, whose objective was to bring marble and its culture into the centre of the town and in contact with the townsfolk, has been fully appreciated”.
The copy of David, located in the heart of the old town, Zero, Snøhetta’s cube and the sumptuous Cadillac sculpted in arabescato that fascinated thousands of visitors, will continue to delight the public with special light effects in attractive settings like the design area in Via Rosselli, the Children’s theatre and the design exhibition by Up& Up Group until the end of the month.
Just a few of the pieces on show in the old town which has opened up its historical buildings, squares, streets and public spaces forming a unique setting which appeals to a vast public.
The installations and sculptures placed in the streets and squares with their original lighting can be viewed every evening while the exhibitions in the public and private buildings will be open in the evening only from Friday 17 to Sunday 19 and from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 from 6 pm to midnight.
Because of organisational difficulties it will not be possible to extend the “urban” architecture exhibition in the auditorium at the Fine Arts Academy (where on 16 June the council board is meeting for the town’s festive day) and likewise the blocks of marble in Via Roma, in the area between the Academy and the Carrara Savings Bank offices will be removed for the weekly market.
So this much appreciated event, made possible thanks to the hard work of CarraraFiere and the support of leading companies and which has succeeded in placing Carrara at the centre of attention by promoting marble culture in the setting of the old town is to continue.
Partners of the event are: Franchi Umberto Marmi; GEMEG; Il Fiorino; MT&S;  Italmarble Pocai; Savema; Società Apuana Marmi, Up Group with Martinelli Luce as the technical sponsor.
Finally, the event also benefits from the decisive contribution from the Tuscan Regional Government, Toscana Promozione, Massa Carrara Province, Carrara Council, Carrara Savings Bank Foundation, Massa Carrara Chamber of Commerce, Carrara Savings Bank which is the sole bank sponsor and Carrara Fine Arts Academy which gave its most prestigious rooms for the event.
Carrara Marble Week is free of charge and open all day in the public spaces; exhibitions in historical buildings will be open in the evening only from Friday 17 to Sunday 19 June and from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 June from 6 pm to midnight.
