The event to continue until the end of June; a series of happenings with architects from all over the world. Carrara, 11 June 2011 “We are delighted to be able to extend Carrara Marble Week to the end of June. The idea came first and foremost from the partner companies who have seen the success of the event. The decision, which leads to a great deal of work especially in terms of organization - said Paris Mazzanti, the general manager of CarraraFiere that organised the event with the support of companies and institutions such as the Chamber of Commerce and Toscana Promozione - was a joint decision with the Council and means that the exhibitions in the streets with their special lighting effects will remain until the end of the month together with the exhibitions in the public and private buildings. We are very pleased because Carrara Marble Week, whose objective was to bring marble and its culture into the centre of the town and in contact with the townsfolk, has been fully appreciated”. Thousands of inhabitants from Carrara crowded the streets together with the many guests from outside the town to admire the sculptures, exhibitions and installations where performances and shows were held with special lighting effects. On Saturday 11 June the visit of a group of 35 architects representing large offices and international trade associations and specialised in projects using natural stone materials from Europe, Asia and America came to an end. The architects had been chosen by the Italian Chambers of Commerce abroad and CarraraFiere. Thanks to the work by Toscana Promozione, the Chamber of Commerce and Lucca promos they took part in the events of Carrara Marble Week, visited the quarries and companies and finished with a final workshop where they met numerous entrepreneurs. For the occasion of Carrara Marble Week the magazine A+D+M edited by Simona Finessi organised a visit for a group of architects to Carrara and the event. As always A+D+M selected and coordinated the participation of high profile professionals who work in architecture, urban planning, residential building, hotel buildings and funeral arts. Among them was Stefano Anfossi (Professor in Design Economics at Milan Polytechnic), Nicoletta Negro (Studio Negro&Associati, specialised in the design of homes for the disabled), Claudia Cavina (Duccio Grassi Architects, an International architectural office that has designed several “Malls” in the Arab Emirates, as well as the latest Zara flagship store in Via del Corso in Rome). Other members of the group who visited the town and the quarries were Marta Nasazzi and Giampiero Peia, founders of the Studio Peia&Associati, who have designed significant hotel projects and Marco Ciarlo (urban planner, considered one of the most important designers in cemetery architecture), Stefano Chiocchino (Director of the European Design Institute in Perugia and expert in the use of marble in architecture, organiser and promoter of FestArch), Clarissa Sirci who has been working in architectural design with marble for many years, Mario Clemente Rossi and Eleonora Secco (Studio Rossi & Associati who have designed important sacred buildings) without forgetting Silvia Giannini (Studio Giannini & Associati, specialized in hotels and spas at thermal centres), Carlo Beltramelli (Founder of AIPI Veneto and representative for Italy of the ECIA, the European Council of Interior Architects). Another important member of the group coordinated by Simona Finessi was Virginia Busato, an expert in intercultural marketing, training and cultural relations with China. The entire group invited by Network A+D+M met the marble companies during a meeting held on the terrace of Hotel Michelangelo and then went on to attend the evening of installations and exhibitions of Carrara Marble Week on Friday 10 June while on Saturday 11 June they visited the quarries to further and complete their visits and get closer to the material that they already use with excellent results. Carrara Marble Week was organized by CarraraFiere with the support of a group of partner companies: Franchi Umberto Marmi; GEMEG; Il Fiorino; MT&S; Italmarble Pocai; Savema; Società Apuana Marmi, Up Group and Martinelli Luce as technical sponsor with the contribution of the Tuscan Regional Government, Toscana Promozione, Massa Carrara Province, Carrara Council, Carrara Savings Bank Foundation, Massa Carrara Chamber of Commerce, Carrara Savings Bank which is the sole bank sponsor and Carrara Fine Arts Academy which gave its most prestigious rooms for the event.
